Eugene Charles Hadachek was born August 6, 1922 on a farm east of Cuba, son of Emma Lizzy Junek and Charles Frank Hadachek, and died December 29, 2018 at Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kans. He was 96. He attended Bates country school, and graduated from Cuba High School in 1940.
He was a lifelong farmer-stockman in the Cuba area. He entered the US Army during World War II, and served more than three years. He was stationed overseas as an Army T/5 with the 11th Armored Division under the command of General George S. Patton. He served in the Battle of the Bulge.
On May 25, 1950 he married Katherine Ann Lesovsky at the Presbyterian parsonage in Belleville. To this union five children were born. The couple lived on their family farm east of Cuba until moving to Belleville in 1992. They later lived at Prairie Ridge Estates, and he lived at Country Place Senior Living, both in Belleville, at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Cuba where he served as a ruling elder and sponsor of the youth group; the American Legion William Fleming Post #345 where he served as commander, adjutant and service officer; the Veterans of Foreign Wars #7515, Clyde, Kans.; the Cuba Lions Club; a school board member in Districts #51, #228 and USD #455, and treasurer of USD #455 for many years. He served on the NCK Free Fair board for 10 years, including fair board president.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katherine, in 2008; a sister, Lucille (LaVern) Routh of Twin Falls, Idaho; infant twin brothers, Edward and Ernest; and a grandson, Nathaniel Gene Hadachek of Cuba. He is survived by five children: Larry (Amy) Hadachek and Merle (Debra) Hadachek, Cuba; Peggy (Curtis) Stoffer, Abilene, Kans.; Patti (Gerald) Benda, Ludell, Kans.; Mikel Hadachek, Belleville; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 4, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Cuba. Military rites will be conducted by the Cuba American Legion Post and the Ft. Riley Honor Guard at the church following the service. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville and at the church prior to the service. Cremation was chosen and a private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Kopsa Cemetery east of Cuba. Memorials are suggested to the Cuba American Legion Post or the Cuba Presbyterian Church. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home assisted the Hadachek family with these arrangements.
