Alberta Simmons

Alberta Mae Mason was born November 25, 1947 at Perryton, Texas to Albert S. and Ida Mae (Jines) Mason. She passed from this life Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kansas at the age of 69 years, 2 months, and 16 days. Alberta attended Lowe Center Country School through the 8 th grade. From there she went to Mahaska High School and graduated in 1965. She attended St. Francis Nursing School in Wichita, Kansas graduating in 1968 with a degree in nursing as a Registered Nurse. On June 22, 1968 she was united in marriage to Lonnie L. Simmons in Mahaska. To this union three children, Rick, Vicky, and John were born. Alberta started her nursing career in Washington, Kansas at the age of 16. She was a Candy Striper to start with and soon became a Nurse Assistant. After nursing school she began her nursing career working at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairbury, Nebraska for 7 years, and then she came to Republic County Hospital, Belleville, where she worked for 35 years retiring in 2013. She worked in the nursing profession for a total of 53 years. She was a hardworking, well-loved nurse and friend. She was often requested by many patients throughout the years. Alberta’s greatest joy in life was her grandchildren. She attended all music and sporting events to cheer and encourage them. She was also involved with them in their 4-H and FFA endeavors. Alberta was a member of the Narka Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder, member of the Eastern Star, Relay for Life Committee Leader and participant, and a Lifetime Committed member, parent, grandparent, and Leader in 4-H and FFA. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Lonnie in 1997. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered by her son Rick (Amanda) Simmons, daughter Vicky (Mike) Holly, and son John (Mary) Simmons all of Narka; adopted son Marc (Brandi) Selewski of Haddam; grandchildren, Brandon (Tia) Simmons, Scandia, William Joseph, Samantha, and Reece Simmons, Narka, Mason and Carson Simmons, Casey Stokes, Narka, Brittany Laflen and great grandson Brycen Laflen, Washington, Jaycee and Amelia Selewski, Haddam; brothers James (Helen) Mason, Narka and Orvil (Shirley) Mason, Arkansas City, Kansas; sisters Stella (Robert) Fenn, Prairie Village, Kansas, Rosella (Dwight) Carter, Gorham, Kansas, and Mary (Ken) Mortensen, Bonner Springs, Kansas; many nieces, nephews, other family members; and a host of many friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30am Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the Presbyterian Church, Narka, Kansas with Pastor Phil Goombi officiating. Burial will be in the Mahaska City Cemetery. Memorials should be made to the Alberta Simmons Memorials to be designated later. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas assisted the Simmons family with these arrangements.
