Darrell Addison Carlson was born on March 15th, 1951, to Victor Addison and Neva (Wiley) Carlson in Concordia, KS. He passed away on November 29th, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer at the age of 74. Darrell attended Courtland schools and graduated with the class of 1969. During high school, he worked at the Courtland Elevator.
Upon graduating high school, he spent the summer helping Babe Dewey on his harvest run, starting in Oklahoma and going through Nebraska. He then attended Cloud County Community College and later graduated from Fort Hays State College. Darrell then returned to the family farm to farm with his father Addison, Andy Stafford, and later with his two sons throughout his lifetime.
He was united in marriage to Jana Lee Dunstan on November 11th, 1973, and to this union, two sons were born: Brent Victor and Derek James. The couple made their home southeast of Courtland for 52 years. Throughout their married life, Darrell and Jana enjoyed several scenic trips. They were privileged to vacation at Tom and Teresa Snyder’s Colorado cabin for over 15 years. Their trips to Pennsylvania, California, and Utah were some of their most memorable vacations.
Darrell was a true farmer and was a good steward of the land. Farming, raising hay, and his family were his passions. He and his 4020 helped out many a neighbor and a friend, whether it be with farming or helping however he could. Through the years, Darrell employed many neighbors, friends, and nephews as hired hands for him, who have become lifelong friends. He served on the Midway Co-op board, the Republic County FSA County Committee Board, and was a long-time trustee of the Courtland Covenant Church.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Jana, sons: Brent (Paula) and Derek (Audrey), grandchildren: Addison Rea, James Oliver, and Elsie Joy, sisters-in-law: Karla (Mike) Little, Lori (Rob) Bonjour, Kristi (Brian) Badger, brothers-in-law: Steve (Loreita) Dunstan, Eldon (Pam) Dunstan, his last Wiley cousin: Teresa Snyder, and many nieces, nephews, and Carlson cousins.
