David Glenn Scrivner of Scandia, Kansas passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in Denver, Colorado at the age of 71. He was born on November 19, 1954, to Glenn and Norma (Berggren) Scrivner.

David graduated from Scandia High School in 1972 and attended Cloud County Community College before enlisting in the US Navy.

In 1980 he married Lynda McCurdy in Cuba, Kansas and together they shared 46 years and raised two daughters, Kelsey Deanne and Kegan Leann.
David graduated from Scandia High School in 1972 where he was proud to have been a part of two 8-man State Football Championship teams. He attended Cloud County Community College before enlisting in the US Navy.

In 1980 he was married to my mom, Lynda (McCurdy) Scrivner and together they shared 46 years and raised 2 daughters. Kelsey Deanne Scrivner of Kansas City and Kegan Leann Scrivner of Denver.

David worked for the Robison Dairy Farm in high school and college. He would always talk about how much “fun” it was waking up at 4:30 AM to milk the cows before class. He later worked for Johnson and Larson Grain before working for Gary Cline at Scandia Auto Parts for 20 years. He could tell you the order number for any car part you could think of without even looking it up. He also worked at Reinke’s, Coca-Cola, Lambert’s, and most recently he delivered mail.

Being a life long resident of Scandia, he took immense pride in doing whatever he could to keep his hometown welcoming and clean. Even if that meant picking up every aluminum can he came across.

His incredible memory was impressive. He could tell you the birthday and phone number of almost everyone in town.

Dave was a very loyal friend to many and was very intentional about keeping up with everything going on in his friend’s lives. Lynda, Kelsey, and Kegan joke that he has more friends than all three of them combined.

His love and knowledge of music (specifically 70’s music) was strong. It didn’t matter if it was Dave Mason, Crosby Stills &Nash, Billy Joel, The Eagles, Bob Segar, or The Steve Miller Band he could tell you the name of the song, what album it was from, what year it was released, and a random fact about the musician or band before the end of the first verse.

Kelsey credits her love and knowledge of sports to my dad. This was something that they really connected on. Going to games together was one of her favorite things they did. He taught her things like what victory formation meant, why there’s a pass interference penalty in football (when she thought that was the point of the defense), what a walk off home run is, and what team won the Super Bowl or World Series in any random year that I asked about.

His collection of car tags, playing cards, buttons, hats, and anything horse related was impressive. He hung all of his tags up in the garage and there were so many he started having to rotate them out as he got more. Having so many different types of collections did make Christmas shopping pretty easy though.

Dave always very friendly and would greet anyone he ran into around town with a smile. He would also probably tell you a joke he had told you multiple times before.  Imagine him running into one of his old friends in heaven and that they were probably telling each other funny stories they had already told each other three times, however they both were probably laughing like it was the first time they were hearing it (or maybe not hearing it).

In addition to being proud of being from Scandia he was also very proud of his family. He supported Lynda in anything she was doing. He would tell everyone what experiences Kelsey and Kegan had been up to recently and how impressed he was with them. He also loved that his brother Bryan lived in Houston for so long and always enjoyed hearing about the adventures he took.

He had a sense of humor that not everyone understood, but if you did you were sure to laugh at one of his jokes. If you got to hear one of his jokes, you were in his circle of friends forever. He loved his family and friends fiercely and would do anything for them.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Norma Scrivner.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda Scrivner; daughters Kelsey Scrivner of Kansas City, and Kegan Scrivner of Denver, Co; and his brother Bryan Scrivner, of Houston, TX.
