Dorothy Fischer

March 18, 1926 — May 11, 2016

Dorothy Marie Ida (Eitzmann) Fischer was born March 18, 1926, and passed from this life on May 11, 2016, at Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, KS, at the age of 90 years, 1 month, 22 days. Dorothy was the oldest of four children born to Ernest A. and Amanda Maria (Peters) Eitzmann, and was born in the home of her grandparents, Frederick and Maria Peters, in Byron, NE. Dorothy was baptized on March 28, 1926, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Byron, NE, and confirmed her faith in that same church on April 7, 1939, where services were still conducted in the German language at that time. Dorothy graduated eighth grade at Blue Mound rural grade school, located at the north end of the quarter mile long driveway to her family home in Kansas, one mile south and 3/4 mile west of Byron, NE. She attended High School in Byron, NE, and graduated as Salutatorian of her high school class in 1944. After passing the required exam given at the Thayer County Courthouse at Hebron, NE, Dorothy taught at a rural country school west of Byron, NE, for one year, until she decided to attend Beauty College and become a beautician. Dorothy attended the Beauty Academy in Beatrice, NE, and worked at the Beauty Academy Salon and, later, at a beauty shop in Nelson, NE. When she was 21 yrs. old, she purchased and opened her own Beauty Shoppe in Byron. Dorothy was united in marriage to (Ivan) Gene Fischer on May 1, 1949, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Byron. To this union, three daughters were born. Dorothy and Gene moved to Dorothy's childhood home in Kansas in October 1951 and began life on the farm. Dorothy also moved her beauty shop out to the farm and continued her hairdressing career, along with raising 3 daughters after her niece Sandra joined her family in 1969, and helping Gene with the farm work they both truly loved. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Gene, her parents Ernest A. and Amanda M. Eitzmann, infant daughter Jackie Lynn Fischer, brothers Myron Frederick and Arland Kenneth Eitzmann, and sister Florence Irene Bostwick. She will be fondly remembered by her daughters, Brenda and Ray Danielson, Belleville, KS, Tamie and Vern Uri, Golden, CO, Sandra Bostwick, Belleville, KS, and grandson, Christopher L. Uri, Golden, CO., and many nieces and nephews and cousins.  Funeral services were held Monday, May 16, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Byron, Nebraska with Pastor Breen Marie Sipes officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Cemetery, Byron. Memorials may be made to Meadowlark Hospice. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas assisted the Fischer family with these arrangements.
