Janice Mae Brungardt, the daughter of Erney & Matilda L. (Krhounek) Kolars was born on October 8, 1946, in Belleville. She grew up in Cuba, and attended Cuba schools, graduating from Cuba High School, class of 1964. She was a member of the last class to graduate from Cuba, before it became Hillcrest.
Janice was married to Marvin A. Brungardt on February 27, 1965, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington, Kansas. To this union of 55 years, two children were born, Brian and Natalie.
Janice worked for M-C Industries, later Precision Dynamics, and then at Scott Specialties of Belleville. In her free time, she enjoyed camping and spending time with her family.
Janice passed away on January 18, 2021, in Washington, Kansas, at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 10 days.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Erney & Matilda, her sister Marlene Davis and her husband Loren, brothers-in-law Alvin Brungardt, Danny Shannon, sisters-in-law Leona Ouellette and her husband Delphos Jr., and Martina Brungardt.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband Marvin, son Brian Brungardt and his wife Monica of Gardner, daughter Natalie Shears and her husband Jerry of Alda, Nebraska, grandchildren, Teren & Brenna Brungardt, Delaney Shears, Keaton Shears and his fiancé Stephanie and their son Kash, step grandchildren Kalli Nygren and her family and Mindy DeBuhr and her family.
Janice is also survived by her brother, Melvin Kolars and his wife Victoria of Belleville, sisters-in-law Marilyn Brungardt of Washington, Hilda Shannon of Washington, brother-in-law Melvin Brungardt of Washington, many nieces and nephews, and a community of friends.
Cremation was chosen, with private, family services to be held on Friday, January 29, 2021, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville with Fr. Henry Baxa officiating. Committal Services will follow at National Bohemian Cemetery #13, rural Cuba.
Friends may sign Janice’s book at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home on Thursday, January 28, from 9am – 5pm and on Friday, January 29, from 9am – 11am.
Memorials are requested to the Cancer Center of Kansas or Meadowlark Hospice, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
