After college, he worked in the parts department with Melton Motors for 2 years then became an Under Sheriff in Republic County for 4 years. He then began a career in agriculture which spanned 33 years until his retirement in 2010. During those years he worked as a general manager for Rolla Cooperative, a grain originator for Grain Growers Cooperative, a location manager for AgroTech Cooperative, agronomy sales for Collingwood Grain, Inc and as an agronomy department manager for Dalhart Consumers Fuel Association. They lived near Montezuma, KS for 3 years before moving to Callahan, FL. While in Florida, they enjoyed spending time with friends and family, but they especially enjoyed the beautiful Florida weather fishing on their boat, sitting on the dock with friends, or just enjoying a cup of coffee on their back patio. Most important in his life were his children and his grandchildren as they meant the world to him. He always enjoyed his long conversations with his children and when asked for advice, it always brought a smile. He was so proud to be their dad and proud of what they have all accomplished. Jon was a very caring, loving father and husband, and always treated people with kindness while relishing any opportunity to crack a good joke at any time.
