Marilynn Kay Birrell, daughter of Ralph and Verde (Helmer) Gunn was born June 13, 1928 at Courtland, Kansas. She passed from this life Monday, October 10, 2011 at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kansas at the age of 83 years. Marilynn attended and graduated from Belleville High School with the Class of 1946. She married Darrell A. Birrell on April 27, 1946 at Concordia, Kansas and together they raised four children: Greg, Michal, Kim, and Laura. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Republic, Kansas where she was a member of the choir and directed the youth choir. Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Eric Birrell; sister Gail Gunn; and brothers Charles and Ralph, Jr. She will be forever remembered by her husband Darrell of their home; son Greg Birrell and wife Joan, Republic; daughters Michal Herde and husband Darrel, Garnett, Kim Birrell, Republic, and Laura Robertson and husband Erin, Falun; grandchildren Aaron Birrell, Katie (Bill) Mikesell, Adrian (Lisa) Phelps, Ashley (Phil) Cuchiarellia, and Romie Robertson; great grandsons Tristan & Andrew Mikesell, Ethan Phelps; brothers Merrill (Pauline) Gunn, Placerville, CA and Bob (Shirley) Gunn, Republic; sister Connie (Bill) Smith also of Republic; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the United Methodist Church, Republic, Kansas with Pastor Roger Walls officiating. Burial was in Rosemound Cemetery south of Hardy, Nebraska. Memorials may be made to the Disabled Veterans Association in care of the family.
