Mary Elizabeth Thomas daughter of Jay Smith and Mable (Richardson) Smith was born May 14, 1927 at Salina, Kansas and passed away December 5, 2011 at the Nicol Home in Glasco, Kansas at the age of 84 years. Mary attended school in Lincoln, Kansas. Mary was united in marriage to Wilton (Sam) Thomas on July 5, 1950 and to this union eight children were born. Mary worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 42 years and was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees. She was also a member of the Webber Methodist Church and United Methodist Women group. Mary was a very hardworking woman raising eight children, attending their activities, working full time, baking, cooking, sewing, and gardening all with a gentle and loving heart. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Sam Thomas; one daughter Mary Adams; and one granddaughter Grace Thomas; her parents; one brother John Smith; two sisters Mable Smith and Frances Thiessen.   Mary will be forever remembered by her three daughters, Ella Hamilton of Andover, Kansas and her two children Darren and Phil and grandchild Cora; Venda Young and husband Dana of Hays, Kansas and her three children Josh Swank, Lauren, Jake and two grandchildren McKenna and Kaleb; Michelle Jensen and husband Mark of Hays, Kansas and child Cameron; four sons, Bill Thomas and wife Cecilia of Wichita, Kansas and his two children Jeff and Manicel and two grandchildren Amaya and G'isiah; Bob Thomas of Wichita, Kansas; Gene Thomas of Courtland, Kansas and his two children Ashleigh and Cole; Jerry Thomas of Lovewell, Kansas; son-in-law J.D. Adams of Manhattan, Kansas and two children Ryan and Dan and four grandchildren Emily, Kaley, Josh and Brody; four sisters, Margaret Adams of Pittsburgh, Kansas; Lavaughn McClintock and husband Larry of Beloit, Kansas; Darlene Meredith and husband Tom of Delphos, Kansas; Jaylin Kirby of California; four brothers, Jay Smith of Loveland, Colorado; Robert Smith of Wichita, Kansas; Edgar Smith of California; and Walter Smith of Muskogee, Oklahoma; other relatives and a community of friends. Funeral services were held 2:00pm Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the United Methodist Church, Webber, Kansas with Pastor Kathy Aeillo officiating. Burial was in Webber Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas was in charge of these arrangements.
