Melvin Leroy Keller, son of John and Lena (Schoen) Keller was born May 14, 1937 near Hunter, KS. Melvin attended country school until his family moved to town in 1948.   He graduated from Hunter High School in 1955. He joined the National Guard in 1954 and served until 1962. Melvin was united in marriage to Grace Kralicek on September 3, 1961 and to this union two daughters were born. He was a farmer/stockman in the Hunter area until his retirement when he moved to Belleville. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for 14 years, he also served as a Trustee and Elder of Trinity Lutheran Church, served on the Township Board, and was a member of the School Board of USD #299 for two terms. He was known to many as "Hot Dog" and he loved to visit. He enjoyed having coffee to catch up on the news with his friends. Melvin enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially proud of his grandkids. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; sister Ruby Zimmerman; and his brothers Harold and Leonard. Melvin is survived by his wife Grace of the home, daughter Kerry and husband Kevin Johnson of Belleville, daughter Konnie Williams of Overland Park, three grandchildren, Kelby and Kale Johnson and Jaylee Williams, his brother Richard and wife Evelyn of Hunter, KS, sister Dorothy Reiter of Evergreen, CO, many nieces and nephews and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter, Kansas with Pastors Gerald Radtke and Matthew Schneider officiating. Family inurnment will be in the Greenwood Union Cemetery, rural Hunter, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the church.
