Rosalie A. Sterba Splichal was born August 31, 1927 to Joseph and Mary (Soulek) Sterba near Munden, Kansas and died Sunday, October 16, 2016 in Belleville, Kansas. She attended Rose Creek Center School and graduated from Munden High School. She attended Brown-Mackie in Salina, Kansas and then worked at the Munden State Bank. While in high school she began writing to Joseph Splichal who was serving overseas in World War II. On February 4, 1947 they were married; and began their life together in the Munden community on the family farm. To this union six children were born. She was very active with the St. George’s Catholic Church Altar Society and The Catholic Workman. After moving to Belleville she was active as a volunteer at the Belleville Public Library and with the American Legion Auxiliary. Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph F.; and two daughters, Carolyn Waln and infant daughter Sally; three sisters, Julia Polak, Mary Zach and Marcella Holmes; and three brothers, Charlie, Frank and Ernest Sterba. She will be forever remembered by her children, Nancy (Charles) Scarffe, Dorothy (Gary K.) Nelson, Paul (Rose Marie) Splichal, and Cynthia (Steve) Poppe; grandchildren Tara (Tracy) Waln-Lewellyn, Melissa (Richard) Splichal Peat, Jennie (Dana) Nelson Sherrill, Victoria (Anthony) Scarffe Barrett, James (Stephanie) Waln, Melinda Waln, Kristine (Jason) Nelson-Morris, Janelle (John) Splichal Swiercinsky, David Scarffe, Shawna (Kyle) Poppe Bowers, Sarah (Chase) Splichal Warne, and Nathan (Lia) Poppe; 13 great grandchildren; and brother-in-law Kenneth Holmes. She was Aunt Rose to many nieces and nephews.
