Dorothy McCarty

Dorothy Marie McCarty was born on May 24, 1930, on her parent’s farm, near Courtland, Kansas. The daughter of Clarence and Neta (Kingsbury) Haney, Dorothy attended Courtland schools, graduating from Courtland High School in 1948.

Following high school, Dorothy married Donovan L. McCarty on September 20, 1952, at the Courtland Methodist Church. To this union of 50 years, two sons were born. Dorothy and Don bought their first, and only house, on O Street in 1952, at a time when there were no other houses in that part of town. They lived in this house their entire lifetime.

During her lifetime, Dorothy worked for various employers, include the Belleville Telephone Company, JC Penney’s, Food Mart, Arbuthnots and the Travel Information Center.

In her free time, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and extended family, playing cards with friends, and visiting casinos every so often. She was also an avid sports fan, following the local schools, K-State football, KU Basketball, the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals.

Dorothy peacefully passed from this life in Washington, Kansas, on November 20, 2020, at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 27 days.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Donovan in 2003, her brother Philip Haney and sister-in-law Glorine Haney.

She will be forever remembered by her sons, Donovan L. (Mac) McCarty II, and Gary L. McCarty, both of Belleville. Dorothy is also survived by her many cousins and extended family, and a community of friends.

Friends may sign Dorothy’s book on Friday, November 27th, from 1pm – 8pm, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville, where the family will greet friends from 6pm – 8pm.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 28th, at 2:00 pm, at the Belleville City Cemetery.

Family and friends are encouraged to wear casual attire to the services.

Persons attending the services are requested to wear masks or other facial coverings, and to practice social distancing at all times. Family and friends unable to attend the services are encouraged to express their condolences and leave memories on Dorothy’s Tribute Wall, on her obituary page, on the funeral home website.

Memorials are requested to the North Central Kansas Health Care Foundation, the Courtland High School Alumni Association or the Centennial Homestead of Washington, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
