Ed Junek

Edwin Paul Junek was born on April 18, 1954, in Belleville, the son of Leon L. & Irene (Kasper) Junek. Ed, one of 8 children born to Leon & Irene, grew up on the family farm near Cuba, and graduated from Hillcrest High School, class of 1972.

Following high school, Ed worked on the family farm, and then worked as an over the road truck driver. He was united in marriage to Doreen Hughes on April 23, 1977, in Clyde, and to this union, one son was born. Ed & Doreen were later divorced.

Ed started a 26 year career with Republic County Rural Water District #2 in 1993, and in his spare time, he farmed and raised cattle. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. Ed was a devoted family man, and later in life, enjoyed doing everything and anything for and with his grandsons, Jensen & Hayes.

Ed passed away on December 21, 2020, in Lawrence, Kansas, at the age of 66 years, 8 months and 3 days. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon & Irene, niece Amanda Trecek, nephew Craig Junek, nephew Jared Hughes, brother-in-law Dave Trecek, brother-in-law Richard Hughes, and close friend Gary Headley.

He will be forever remembered by his son Adam, and his wife Emily of Clyde, and his grandsons, Jensen & Hayes Junek. Ed is also survived by his brother Gary Junek and his wife Marilyn of Cuba, sister Marilyn Trecek of Agenda, brother Alan Junek and his wife Sandra of Cuba, brother Rick Junek of Belleville, sister Patty Struble and her husband Jim of Minneapolis, sister Carol Taylor and her husband Steve of Delphos, and sister Connie Schou and her husband Einer of Cuba. He is also survived by his former brother-in-law David Hughes and his wife Patti of Lampe, Missouri, and sister-in-law Deb Czapanskiy and her husband Bill of Clyde. Ed is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, and a community of friends.

Visitation will be on Monday, December 28, 2020, from 9 am – 5 pm, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville, the family will not be present.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 10:00 a.m., at the Cuba Community Center, burial will follow at National Bohemian Cemetery #13, rural Cuba. The family requests persons attending the services to wear casual, comfortable attire.

Memorials are requested to the Ed Junek Memorial, to benefit Jensen & Hayes’s future education, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Family and friends unable to attend the services are encouraged to leave memories and express condolences on the Tribute Wall of Ed’s obituary page, on the funeral home website.

The funeral services will be recorded, and made available on the Tibbetts-Fischer Facebook page, following the services.

Persons attending the services are requested to wear masks or other facial covering, and to practice social distancing.
