Guy Chizek

April 15, 1952 — December 12, 2019

Guy Laverne Chizek, son of Dale and Ruby (Jarrett) Chizek was born April 15, 1952 in Concordia, Kansas. He grew up with his three sisters, Glory, Dala and Renna on the farm near Agenda. Guy attended Agenda grade school, graduated from Cuba High school in 1970 and received his Associates Degree from Cloud County Community College. From that time on, he pursued his passion of farming and raising cattle. On May 10, 1975, he was married to Karla Cory in Concordia, Kansas, and together they raised two sons Alan and Carl.

Fifty years ago, Guy together with Terry, Don, and Ed began a country western band and called themselves “The Salt Creek Playboys”. They played all over the mid-west and especially in their hometown communities. Guy loved to play and sing whenever and wherever he could.

Guy loved his family unmeasurably, and was proud of his Bohemian heritage. He enjoyed being in town and visiting with everyone. He considered his neighbors his extended family. He was a member of the Cuba Presbyterian Church and supported Karla as she played for Sunday services, funerals and other functions.

As his health began to fail and he could no longer take care of his beloved cows, Sadie and Button became his sidekicks, and together they would find various ways to tinker around and pass the time.  On Thursday, December 12, 2019, at the age of 67 seven years, Guy’s heart took its last beat and he left this earthly life suddenly at his home with Karla by his side. He was preceded in death by his son Alan; his father Dale and sister Glory Chizek.

Guy will be forever remembered by his wife Karla of their home; son Carl Chizek (Melanie), Kansas City; mother Ruby Chizek, sister Dala Chizek, Cuba, KS, and sister Renna Baldwin (Todd), Huntsville, Arkansas; other family members and many friends.

Memorial services will be held 11:00am Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at the Presbyterian Church in Cuba, Kansas with Pastor Phil Goombi officiating. A family inurnment service will be held later in the Agenda Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family to be designated later.
