Marvel Skucius

March 12, 1924 — September 23, 2019

Marvel Skucius was born Marvel Marie Benyshek to Joseph G. and Mary (Kopsa) Benyshek on March 12, 1924 at her parent’s farm home just east of Cuba, Kansas. She attended Bee Bee Country school and Cuba High School. On April 19, 1947 she married Harvey Skucius, they were married for 48 years before Harvey passed away in 1995. To their union two daughters were born, Susan and Jacalyn. Marvel was an older sister to Alice Wiruth and JoAnne Baxa. They moved to Belleville, Kansas in the summer of 1969. Marvel passed from this life early Monday morning, September 23, 2019 at the age of 95 while living in Salina.

Marvel enjoyed many different things during her lifetime. They included but were not limited too the dances in Cuba, playing Bridge, canning fruits and vegetables from her garden, baking kolaches for family, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was fond of animals, especially cats. She was involved in her community belonging to HDU, VFW Women, HCC and ZCBJ. She also served on the Republic County Election Board for many years. Marvel loved the annual fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada, visiting family and friends and keeping in touch by writing letters. She enjoyed talking with anyone and everyone. She never knew a stranger! Marvel will be missed!

Marvel will be forever remembered by her daughters Susan Speier and husband Ron, Lenexa, KS; Jacalyn Krob and husband Curtis, Salina, KS; grandchildren Meagan (Matt) Bieker, Olathe, KS, Ryan (Krystal) Speier, Shawnee, KS and Kelly Krob, Kansas City, MO; great grandchildren Landry Bieker, Emma and Alexander Speier; sister JoAnne Baxa, Cuba; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harvey; and sister Alice Wiruth.

Memorial services will be 11:00am Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas. Family will greet everyone one hour prior to the service. Family inurnment will be in Tabor Cemetery. Direct cremation was chosen, there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested for the Cuba American Legion. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home is assisting the Skucius family with these arrangements.
