Phyllis Thayer

Phyllis LeVaughn (Nielsen) Thayer was born on October 20, 1929, in Nelson, Nebraska, to Peter and Gerda (Block) Nielsen, and she passed away on September 8, 2019, at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 19 days, at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville.

Phyllis grew up in the rural Nelson area, and attended rural elementary schools, and she graduated from Superior High School, class of 1947. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Phyllis married Max Thayer on March 30th, 1950, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Abdal, Nebraska. To this union of 56 years, five children were born, four daughters and one son.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Gerda, her husband Max, sister Marilyn Morehead, brother Gary Nielsen, and infant great-granddaughter, Emma Drew Shearer.

She is survived by her children; daughter Diane Oleen and her husband Chuck of Falun, Kansas, daughter Linda Brzon and her husband Mike of Courtland, Kansas, daughter Sheri Hoops and her husband Layne of Republic, Kansas, son Randy Thayer and his wife Lana of Republic, Kansas, and daughter Shelley Morehead and her husband Scott of Andover, Kansas.

Phyllis is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Chad Shearer of Frankfort, Kansas; Steffen and Taylor Shearer and their children Elizabeth and Victoria of Sulpher Bluff, Texas; Brooks Shearer of Brownsboro, Texas; Andrew and Amiee Shearer and their children Gavin, Bennett and Maren of Olathe, Kansas; Chase and Natalie Elliott and their children Kanner and Kinlee of Tolar, Texas; Megan and Corbin Hostetler and their children, Connor, Carter and Tyler of Harper, Kansas; Kaleb and Ashley Brzon and their children Campbell, Berkley and Grant of Belleville, Kansas; Jeremy Thayer of Wichita, Kansas; Jordan and Monica Thayer and their children Quinton, Whitney and Valerie of Courtland, Kansas; Erin and Andrew Rieschick and their children Isabel, Ike and Dottie of Falls City, Nebraska; Lauren and Todd Eitzmann and their children Adi and Ava of Beloit, Kansas; Drew Hoops of Salina, Kansas; Mack Morehead of Wichita, Kansas; Addison and Bryce Childs of Andover, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 13th, 2019, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with the family greeting friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville, Kansas.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 14th, 2019, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Republic, with Pastor Roger Walls and Pastor Lance Rundus officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Cemetery, rural Republic.
